Yes, as a foreigner, you can own property in Mexico, including homes in Los Cabos. However, there are restrictions on owning property within 50 kilometers of the coast or 100 kilometers of the border. In these restricted zones, you can own property through a fideicomiso, which is a trust agreement with a Mexican bank that holds the title to the property on your behalf.

A fideicomiso, or bank trust, is a legal document that allows foreigners to own property in the restricted zones of Mexico. The fideicomiso is established with a Mexican bank acting as the trustee, holding the title to the property on behalf of the foreign owner. The fideicomiso is valid for 50 years and can be renewed indefinitely, allowing the foreign owner to use, sell, or pass the property on to heirs. Fieidcomiso can be indefinitely renewed and transferred as well.
